Tanjong Rhu - A waterside lifestyle that’s close to the city

Tanjong Rhu Condos: Offers a nice and scenic waterside lifestyle with private residential condominiums that offer a great location for being close to the city and lovely water ways from the Kallang Riverside to the Marina Barrage.

The area of Tanjong Rhu has its history appearing in a map dated 1604, where it was first mentioned. Tanjong Rhu in history was also known to be associated with shipbuilding and repairing from the early days.

How Tanjong Rhu got its name?

Tanjong Rhu Road was named after the casuarina trees that grew along the coasts of Kallang and Rochor. Casuarina trees are known as pokok rhu in Malay, rhu being the Malay name for the casuarina littoria variety of the tree.

It is unknown when the road was named Tanjong Rhu but the name has been in use since at least the early 17th century, as the area is labelled “Tanjon Ru” in Emanuel Godinho de Erédia’s1604 map featuring Singapore. 3 other roads that connect to Tanjong Rhu Road are named similarly, such as Tanjong Rhu Place, Tanjong Rhu View and Tanjong Rhu Cross.

The Beautiful Watersides of Tanjong Rhu

Tanjong Rhu is one of the private residential areas that is located close to the city centre of Singapore and is connected to the RIR (Round Island Route) of the Park Connector. It is just 10 minutes away from Marina Bay by car, and if you choose to use the Park Connector, you can get there quite easily while enjoying some lovely scenery along the Gardens by The Bay East.

Here are some photos taken while on a walk through the park connector that leads you around the condominiums at Tanjong Rhu.

The landmark structures in the area include the Tanjong Rhu Suspension Bridge, the look out circular tower and the Singapore National Stadium and Indoor Stadium. Water sport activities such as kayaking, canoeing, dragon boating are popular in this area, and you get to see groups of such sports on the weekends and early mornings.

The area is also known to be a venue for large concerts as it is where Singapore National Stadium and the Singapore Indoor Stadium is located. Some major sporting events and national day parades have been organized and held in these venues.

Taking a walk from Tanjong Rhu to the Marina Bay Area is also a nice and pleasant scenic path. You have 2 route to get to the Marina Bay Area, one by using the park connector through Gardens by the Bay East and the other walking up the Sheares Bridge (ECP). As a resident of the area, i often take a round route as a good form of exercise bringing me a distance of approximately 7.5km.

This route brings me from Tanjong Rhu Area, walking up the Sheares Bridge, past the Ritz Carlton Hotel to the Helix Bridge, then down to Gardens by the Bay, the Marina Barrage and then Gardens by the Bay East, to bring me home to Tanjong Rhu.

Along this scenic path, on occassions i have seen the famous family of otters and other wildlife of birds, large lizards and beautiful trees and flowers. I also admire the lovely structures of the Helix Bridge, The Art Science Musuem, Gardens by the Bay indoor gardens, Marina Bay Sands Hotel and the Singapore Flyer.

As you can see, i truly enjoy this waterside lifestyle and being able to get a good balance of leisure activities and easy accessibility to the city centre!

Tanjong Rhu was regarded as quite an inaccessible area to live in because there was no close by amenities such as the convenience of a hawker centre, and wet market. Today of course, there is the upcoming yet to be completed Tanjong Rhu MRT station (to be completed in 2023) and Kallang Wave Mall situated just right beside Stadium MRT which sits on the circle line allowing easy commute with its connectivity to the Downtown Line and other MRT network.

Limited Number of Condominiums in Tanjong Rhu

The 8 condos in Tanjong Rhu keep the limited supply with no future new developments in the area. The area remains attractive to both buyers and tenants for its close proximity to the city centre and water side lifestyle it offers.

As shared in the details earlier, the unit sizes here are much better in total square footage as compared to new launches of today. This appeals to families and couples who seek larger live in spaces, especially so in these times where working from home becomes very common.

Family oriented facilities in the condominiums offer children a social community to play with others from a good international community here which houses many nationalities. Larger overall development land sizes means that units have good spaces between buildings and are too too densely built up, with better views of swimming pools, water bay views or facilities within the condominiums while not directly looking into another unit, giving a good amount of privacy.

Convenience of Malls and Sports Hub nearby

Kallang Wave Mall and Kallang Leisure Park offers supermarkets and a variety of eating options from cafes to restaurants. The Sports Hub is the arena for lots of different sport activities, such as an indoor olympic pool, running tracks, basket ball courts and indoor badminton and table tennis venues.

It is close to the vibrant Bugis Area, Mosque Street and Bali Lane where vibrant cafes and art murals are found on this popular area ,with middle eastern cuisine.

With the Tanjong Rhu MRT station completed, transportation to the city centre is just a mere few stations away.
